The Mavens of Mayhem Chapter of the Sisters in Crime will hold its next meeting at 11AM on September 23rd at the Bethlehem Public Library in Delmar. The speaker will be Eleanor Kuhns who is the 2011 winner of the Minotaur Books/Mystery Writers of America First Crime Novel competition. She received her master’s in Library Science from Columbia University, and is currently the Assistant Director at the Goshen Public Library in Orange County, New York. The topic is Genre Bending and will consist of an interactive program on popular genres answering the question:
Why do librarians put MY books in such crazy categories?
What is a genre? What is not?
How is a genre determined?
And what about the books that bend the genres?
The interactive aspect should appeal to librarians, writers and readers. Everyone is invited.
Join us Saturday April 18th 10:30 AM at the Bethlehem Public Library for the next Mavens of Mayhem meeting.
Just a reminder of Saturday’s Meeting our guest speaker is Bob Krug. He is a retired Colonie Patrol Officer on the job for 26 years. He will be discussing some of the cases he has worked and compare real life police procedures with what we see on TV. So think up some intriguing questions for Bob to give us the real answers.
Our next meeting will be on Saturday, July 20th at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethlehem Public Library (451 Delaware Ave., Delmar, NY). Our program this month will be a presentation by the Albany Paranormal Research Society. Members from APRS will showcase the equipment and techniques they use to investigate paranormal events and phenomena in the Capital Region and will present evidence they have gathered from their investigations. The meeting is free and open to the public. A mystery book discussion group will follow the meeting.
