Writing Prompt for June

Nelson Algren was an American writer. He may be best known for The Man with the Golden Arm, a 1949 novel that won the National Book Award and was adapted as a 1955 film of the same name.  Born in 1909, he had three life rules:“Never play cards with a man called Doc. Never eat at a place called Mom’s. Never sleep with a woman whose troubles are worse than your own.”
 
Writing prompt: Write your protagonist’s three life rules.
 
Please bring your completed prompt to the June meeting and be prepared to read it aloud.

June Meeting

Our next meeting of the Mavens of Mayhem (the Upper Hudson Chapter of SinC) will be on Saturday, June 15th at 10:30 am at Blackwood and Brouwer Booksellers (7 Hudson St) in Kinderhook, NY. The topic will be a discussion of independent booksellers and the state of the book selling industry. The store will be having a 60% off clearance sale as well. PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE IN LOCATION THIS MONTH. We will return to the Bethlehem Public Library in July.

June Meeting

A reminder that our meeting is this Saturday, June 15th at 10:30 am at Blackwood and Brouwer Booksellers (7 Hudson St.) in Kinderhook. PLEASE NOTE this change in location. Next month we will return to our regular location at the Bethlehem Public Library. Rondi will talk to us about independent booksellers and the future of the book selling industry. This should be an interesting and poignant topic. In addition, the 15th is the first day of the 60% off clearance sale, so there should be some good bargains.
