Mavens of Mayhem is a chapter of the international organization Sisters in Crime. We are authors, readers, publishers, agents, booksellers, and librarians bound by our passion for the mystery genre and our support of women who write mysteries. We welcome Sisters and Siblings in Crime from anywhere who have an interest in the mystery community.

Benefits of Membership

As a member, you become a part of a community where you can meet mystery authors at all phases of their careers, network, advance your skills, promote your work, and get and give advice. Being a member of our chapter allows writers to share their web sites and events, participate in our meetings, and annual Murderous March Conference, and other opportunities.

About National Sisters in Crime

In 1986, women wrote 40% of the mysteries and got 15% of the reviews in the New York Times. Sisters in Crime was founded to “combat discrimination against women in the mystery field, to raise awareness of the contributions of female authors, and to promote the professional advancement of women who write mysteries.” Founders included best-selling author Sara Paretsky and Kate Mattes, owner of the former Cambridge literary fixture, Kate’s Mystery Books. Today the national Sisters in Crime organization includes more than 3,600 members and 51 chapters.  They hold monthly free webinars for members in addition to offering a number of classes and activities. They also have programs that support local libraries and bookstores.  Your membership helps these programs in addition to the grants and opportunities they provide to member chapters such as our group.
